Discovering Jose S. Diaz: A Journey from Hobby to Gallery Walls
Every so often, we encounter work that feels truly personal. Art that reflects not only creative skill, but the life experience behind it. The series by Spanish artist Jose S. Diaz is a powerful example.
Born in Alicante in 1969, Diaz did not take a traditional path into the art world. Although creatively gifted from a young age, he only began painting seriously at 41 while living in the mountains of Alicante. What started as a pastime quickly became his calling.
After moving to Málaga, he received formal training and began exhibiting across southern Spain, including Málaga, Cádiz, Almería, Seville, Marbella, and Fuengirola. As a member of APLAMA (Association of Painters of Málaga), he participated in notable group exhibitions at the Diputación de Málaga, gaining recognition within the regional art scene.
Later, Diaz relocated to Galicia, where he spent several years refining his style. His return to public exhibition at Jaspe Art in A Coruña was met with strong acclaim.
The Scuturas Pictóricas series reflects his distinctive voice. The works feature abstracted faces reminiscent of classical busts, rendered in dark, earthy tones. There is a sculptural depth to his mixed-media technique, enhanced by the textured caisson paper. Though intimate in size, each signed piece carries a striking emotional presence.
We are proud not only to present these works, but to begin building a long-term collaboration with Jose S. Diaz an artist whose journey, perseverance, and authenticity bring lasting value to his art.
